Make Sure Your Car Is Running Good With These Tips

TIP! Make sure there is an emergency kit located in your vehicle at all times. This kit should include specific tools for charging your battery, changing your tire, etc.

Finding a reliable mechanic to fix your vehicle can be a very frustrating experience. Don’t sabotage yourself at the beginning. You should read this article and learn all you can. You will be amazed at the knowledge that you will gain.

TIP! Before allowing an auto shop to do repairs to your vehicle, ensure you are aware of the total cost. If you aren’t sure about anything, ask for clarification.

The mechanic that you use should be A.S.E certified. This means the technician has completed a test and has more than two years of experience. This is a good way of finding a qualified mechanic who will care about doing a good job so they can keep their certification.

TIP! Keeping your car washed will help prevent rust. Rust will happen, but you can slow things down by keeping the car clean.

Make sure that you do not neglect the radiator in your car. Let the car run briefly, shut the engine, then open the hood. You never want to open up the radiator if your car is still running. Look to see what the fluid level is (use a dipstick), and remember that coolant needs to have a bit of water added prior to entering your radiator.

TIP! Ask for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. OEM parts are parts that are made by the manufacturer.

Every time your car is repaired, no matter why it is, keep a record of the repair. If you have problems later, it may help the mechanic to see these notes. Your car problems may be harder to find and you may have higher repair costs without the records.

TIP! If your headlights look dimmer than they used to, be sure they’re clean. Sometimes there is grease and/or dirt on it, and it reduces the brightness of the light.

Try to get OEM parts for your car. These parts are the same original parts designed by the manufacturer. While generic parts may be cheaper, you’ll never know how good the quality is. A cheap, generic part is less of a bargain if it only lasts half as long as an OEM part would.

TIP! If there are two tools all cars should have, it is a jack and lug-nut wrench. With that, you also need an extra tire.

Use the tips above when you next have a problem with your car. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed or spend more money than you have to, simply because you have a lack of knowledge. Take charge, make good choices and you will be happy in the end.
